Floating
Terrie status for the day: Sleepy, hungry, kinda panicky and tense, lusting after… shoes (Payless is open here, yay!), feeling floaty. Happy, actually. Business as usual, in other words.
BTW, just a contrast on the colonial affinities of Filipinos and Singaporeans: A friend texted that Payless has opened in Singapore and she was barraged with a flurry of texts from us. We knew Payless from trips to the States and TV shows and US magazine ads and of course, there’s a branch in the Philippines. So the next day at work I excitedly mentioned that Payless has a branch here. No reaction from Singaporean friends, who all love shoes as much as the next girl. When I asked, they said they didn’t know the brand. Hmm, strange. Thought everyone knew Payless.
Contrast this to a few months back when one of my Singaporean friends came back from a trip to London and excitedly regaled us with her shopping spree at Primark. The Singaporean girls squealed, saying they wished there was a Primark here. No reaction from me, because I had no idea what a Primark was, haha! And this is how colonial allegiance manifests itself in small ways… ;)
